Summary

Jack Ryan, Jr。 is out to avenge the murder of an old friend, but the vein of evil he's tapped into may run too deep for him to handle in the latest electric entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series。

While on vacation in Barcelona, Jack Ryan, Jr。 is surprised to run into an old friend at a small caf。 A first, Renee Moore seems surprised to see Jack, but then she just seems irritated and distracted。 After making plans to meet later, Jack leaves, only to miss the opportunity to ever speak to Renee again, as the caf is destroyed minutes later by a suicide bomber。 A desperate Jack plunges back into the ruins to save his friend, but it's too late。 As she dies in his arms, she utters one word, Sammler。

When the police show up they are initially suspicious of Jack until they are called off by a member of the Spanish Intelligence Service。 This mysterious sequence of events sends the young Campus operative on an unrelenting search to find out the reason behind Renee's death。 Along the way, he discovers that his old friend had secrets of her own--and some of them may have gotten her killed。

Jack has never backed down from a challenge, but some prey may be too big for one man。

Despite the master's death in 2013, Tom Clancy's estate continues to put out great techno-thrillers as this one。 The race to find the Holy Grail of computing: the quantum computer。 He who gets there first wins the prize。 The action does not disappoint or let up。 Despite the master's death in 2013, Tom Clancy's estate continues to put out great techno-thrillers as this one。 The race to find the Holy Grail of computing: the quantum computer。 He who gets there first wins the prize。 The action does not disappoint or let up。 。。。more

Thrilling!Very easy read。 Could not put it down。 All the cliches fit this book。 Technically accurate helping the reader feel a part of the screen。

Decently entertaining excursion, but all is wrapped up too quickly and neatly。 The Clancyverse of our time seems to lack congruency and lasting consequences, becoming more episodic than dramatic。

Oh dear。 This is like when you buy a copy product in the supermarket and blame yourself when it isn’t that good。 This isn’t that good。 It repeats the failings of previous books…nobody comments on Jack Ryan having the same name as the President。 Ever。 Jack Jr is part of an elite team who ALL conveniently go on holiday and he gets into trouble but obviously doesn’t call it in。 Far too much time is spent on Spanish history and a bit of a travelogue。 The Jack senior stuff actually works quite well i Oh dear。 This is like when you buy a copy product in the supermarket and blame yourself when it isn’t that good。 This isn’t that good。 It repeats the failings of previous books…nobody comments on Jack Ryan having the same name as the President。 Ever。 Jack Jr is part of an elite team who ALL conveniently go on holiday and he gets into trouble but obviously doesn’t call it in。 Far too much time is spent on Spanish history and a bit of a travelogue。 The Jack senior stuff actually works quite well in terms of the character established over the books and there is a reasonable attempt to make this a Clancy style techno-thriller。Jack Jr is on holiday in Barcelona when he bumps into an old friend, when she is killed in a bomb blast。 Jack decides to investigate and find out why she dies and if she was the actual target。 So off Jack goes, obviously doesn’t call in any support but hooks up with his IT genius friend Gavin to look into things。 Meanwhile a bunch of ships are being sunk and Jack Sr gets on the case (never really explained why they are being sunk by the way)。 Anyway Jack eventually stumbles on the big picture at about the same time as his Dad does, and in a fast moving climax to the book everything comes to a head。 Actually a way to quick finish。 The author takes his time throughout the book at a very steady and slow pace then suddenly decides to finish everything up in about 30 pages。 It felt out of kilter with the rest of the book and much is unresolved or ignored。 Oh, and John Clark gets involved in the final bit of action as if we have forgotten he has been established as being in his 70s…。It’s an easy read but an unsatisfying one and not a great addition to a series that just seems to repeat itself。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Another Jack Jr。 story that was pretty entertaining and had a good finish。 It seems though, every woman that Jack Jr runs into was a long lost love that his parents know nothing about。 I’m ready for more stories that are not so centered on Jack going off the rails。 Give me more Campus, more Clark and/or Ding。 Less Jack Jr, less Jack meets old girlfriend, she dies, and he just can’t leave it alone。

Jack Ryan Jr runs into old flame Renee Moore in a scenic Barcelona café and discovers a mystery after she looses her life in a bomb explosion。 Of course Jack Ryan Jr。 goes across the globe to track down the mystery。 It is a good fast paced book and worth the reading time。

Meh。 Given to my wife by a neighbour, I only read this because it was in the box of books we packed for our 2-month trip around Australia。 Now that we've both read it, we'll be donating it to the communal bookshelves of the next place we stay at Meh。 Given to my wife by a neighbour, I only read this because it was in the box of books we packed for our 2-month trip around Australia。 Now that we've both read it, we'll be donating it to the communal bookshelves of the next place we stay at 。。。more

Not the best。。。。。 Very confusing plotline。 Too many pages on characters that were not part of the main storyline。 Not the greatest set up for the exposure of the villian。

Del Allwood-Soden

Exciting read。

Patrik Bystrom

Obviously, this is purely escapist action so my expectations were not high, but beyond a general idea about a super computer and underwater drones this book has very little to offer。 The only passion in the narrative is in the detailed presentations of guns and cars (possibly product placement)。 The characters and settings are all cliche and stock。 The ending was particularly weak and uninteresting。

Jacques Decarie

Same old plot but with nice modern twists, including quantum computing。 I love special ops。 And I like the fact that it doesn’t end in a fist fight。

Rob Cohen

I really struggled with this one unfortunately。 I found it to be slow, not compelling, and too quickly wrapped up。 Could have been a longer book like Tom used to write, with more intrigue and more of The Campus。 The Jack Jr books seem to be too formulaic lately。

Debra Fabiaschi

Really enjoyed。 This book!Mike Madden did a great job on this book, keeping Jack Ryan’s character alive and well。 I hope more books are on the way。

Joshua Root

Fairly good book。 There was a lot of techno babble that was over the top, but other than that it was an enjoyable read。

Ed Walsh

Another SupermanThis story is a repeat of one often told a secret government agent with super powers。 Ho hum! Like many authors Clancy has turned the job of writing over to his ghost writer。

Edward Taylor

Yet another fantastic read Really enjoyed this latest book。 Good to see Jack working in his own until right at the end。 Easy to get。 Lost in the story。

Susan Swensen

Jack Ryan, Jr , operative for Campus searches to find out why his friend was murdered。 He uncovers plan to steal tons of $ and shut down computers。

You will end up dead, bad guys for sure and alot of good guys too。 Nice storyline and very much from current headlines other than covid。 Crazy presidents, but the same old bad-guys North Korea, Russia and Iraq and the cartels。 But he saved the world again。 3rd time this year。 Lol

Almost went to 3 stars: - JRJ is the only real field character until the last chapter, and that was hardly a mission。 - - 3/4 of the book is leading up to the actual moving plot- the only real "love interest" for JRJ is left as an enigma - nothing was said about what happens to her。- in one chapter he is in Barcelona, next he is in Tennessee。 Not a smooth transition Almost went to 3 stars: - JRJ is the only real field character until the last chapter, and that was hardly a mission。 - - 3/4 of the book is leading up to the actual moving plot- the only real "love interest" for JRJ is left as an enigma - nothing was said about what happens to her。- in one chapter he is in Barcelona, next he is in Tennessee。 Not a smooth transition 。。。more

I've read all the books in this series and other Clancy series and have truly enjoyed most of them。 Maden did a great job on the other novels in the series, Point of Contact and Line of Sight, however this book was the worst of his efforts。 The plot was a bit far fetched, the title was misleading, and felt like a lazy effort to get the book written to fulfill his obligations to his publisher。 Example: the Russian submarine incident would have been a major part in any other of the Clancy/Maden no I've read all the books in this series and other Clancy series and have truly enjoyed most of them。 Maden did a great job on the other novels in the series, Point of Contact and Line of Sight, however this book was the worst of his efforts。 The plot was a bit far fetched, the title was misleading, and felt like a lazy effort to get the book written to fulfill his obligations to his publisher。 Example: the Russian submarine incident would have been a major part in any other of the Clancy/Maden novels but in this book it felt more like a filler than part of the story。 A woman driving a electric Motorcycle is hacked and crashes killing her, no identification or job description, nothing, why? It appears that Maden as ran out of enthusiasm for the series and maybe it's time to pass the pen to someone else just like Eric Lustbader did with the Ludlum Bourne Series and passed it on to Brian Freeman。 I have in the past found it difficult to put down a Clancy/Maden novel and couldn't wait to pick it up again but that was not a problem with this novel, I read a chapter and became bored or uninterested in the plot line。 I did finish the book but unlike other finishes I am not looking forward to the next book in this Clancy/Maden series because if the effort is the same it will not be worth waiting for。 。。。more

The tom Clancey estate needs to find another ghostwriter for this series。 This story was ruefully slow and when the second and third dogs were tortured I was finished。

Could it really happenA very well done thriller that is difficult to put down。 A very unusual plot that gives you food for thought。 If you are into thrillers this one won't disappoint。 Could it really happenA very well done thriller that is difficult to put down。 A very unusual plot that gives you food for thought。 If you are into thrillers this one won't disappoint。 。。。more
